JOB POSITION – HARVEST AND SALES MANAGER

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill our Harvest and Sales Manager position. This person does sales for the farm and oversees the efficient operation of the field harvest and pack-out. This individual work closely with and is supervised by the farm owner. And is responsible for managing the crew leaders and field crew on all things related to the harvest.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Do weekly field walks to assess the crops and timing, quantity, and quality of harvest.

  • Make harvest list for farmers markets and wholesale orders.

  • Communicate harvest list with the field crew leaders.

  • Assist as needed with washing, sorting, and packing.

  • Make wholesale availability lists for retailers, restaurants, and distributors.

  • Maintain inventory of packing supplies.

  • Oversee that a clean, organized cooler and storage spaces are maintained.

  • Monitor quality of product and proper packaging and labeling.

  • Oversee that cleaning logs are completed and food safety procedures are practiced.

  • Input payments from farmers market and sales accounts.

  • Maintain strong relationships with various accounts and build new sales channels.

  • Assist in training farmers market staff on crop information.

  • Attend staff meetings and participate in both big picture strategizing and daily operational decisions.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Occasionally working farmers markets, which includes driving a box truck, customer service, detailed record-keeping, attention to detail, repetitive heavy lifting.

  • Helping with truck packing and moving product between ranches as needed.

  • General farm work and participation in projects as needed.

CSA AND FARMERS MARKET MANAGER

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill our CSA and Farmers Market Manager position. This person is responsible for managing all administrative tasks related to our 350-400 member CSA. This person is also responsible for managing administrative tasks related to the 7-8 farmers markets that we participate in weekly. CSA responsibilities

  • Complete CSA administrative tasks including: sign-ups, payments, orders, and delivery logistics.

JOB POSITION – TRACTOR DRIVER/FIELD MANAGER

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill our Tractor Driver/Field Manager position. This person oversees and contributes to a significant portion of the tractor work for the farm. This person is trained by and reports to the farm owner and is assisted by one or two other tractor operators. We manage two ranches totaling 120 acres and farm vegetables and flowers on 70 of those. The land that is not in row crops is planted in pasture for sheep or cover cropped. Around the farm, we use 10 tractors for various purposes, ranging from 120hp to 20hp, many different primary and secondary cultivation implements, forklifts, trucks, and trailers.

Primary responsibilities

  • Work with Farm Owner to plan and coordinate tractor field work

  • Executing tractor work, including everything from field preparation and seeding to cultivating.

  • Fertility monitoring and application.

  • Scouting for pest and disease.

  • Coordinating and assisting irrigators on scheduling, pipe moving, drip installation, fertilizing, and repairs.

  • Maintenance of fencing, field tools, buildings, trucks, tractors, and equipment

  • Transporting tractors and equipment between two ranches.

  • Record-keeping of all field activity and inputs.

JOB POSITION – FARMSTAND AND EVENTS COORDINATOR

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill our Farmstand, U-pick, and Events Manager position. Last year on a newly acquired ranch, we opened a small farmstand. This year we plan to launch a Strawberry and Pumpkin U-pick operation and offer open houses, farm tours, and farm dinners. This individual would be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the above mentioned projects, in addition to the responsibilities listed below.

Farmstand responsibilities

  • Maintain an abundant-looking, clean, and organized display.
  • Coordinate the opening set-up and closing down.
  • Communicate product needs to Harvest and Sales Managers.
  • Transport products from the main ranch to the farmstand as needed.
  • Follow food safety practices and procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of farmstand supplies.

U-Pick responsibilities

Job Position - Farmers Market Staff

We are always looking for additional marketeers to help out at our farmers markets. We attend seven markets throughout San Francisco, San Mateo County, and Santa Cruz.  We ask farmers market staff to meet our truck 2 hours before market, unload and create displays, then sell high quality veggies to our loyal customers. This is a really fun job for someone with fantastic customer service skills, positive attitude, and interest in local organic food.

JOB POSITION – FLOWER PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

The Flower Production Assistant works closely with the Flower Production Manager and other flower team members to produce eight acres of high quality, organic cut flowers for farmers markets, wholesale accounts, and special events. The position is full time from April – November.

Flower-specific responsibilities include:

  • Harvest flowers up to 20-35 hours per week at the height of the season

  • Arrange flower bouquets

  • Trellis and stake beds, irrigate, fertilize, plant, and hoe as needed

  • Assist with greenhouse sowings and field plantings

  • Supervised by and works closely with Flower Manager

Secondary responsibilities could include the following:

  • Lead one weekly farmers market, which includes driving a box truck, customer service, record-keeping, attention to detail and repetitive heavy lifting

  • General farm work and participation in projects as needed

The work requires the physical and mental capacity to contribute daily to an often rigorous, fast-paced, and deeply rewarding agricultural practice. This position is seasonal (April-November) with the potential to become year-round.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience on a production farm

  • Cut-flower growing experience preferred

  • Strong floral design skills desired

  • Ability to speak basic, conversational Spanish is desired

JOB POSITION – FLOWER PRODUCTION MANAGER

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill our Flower Production Manager position. This person oversees a flower team of 3-5 people to produce around 8 acres of high quality, organic cut flowers for farmers markets, wholesale accounts, and special events. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage all aspects of the farm’s flower production on five acres. Ensure a steady supply of a variety of
    marketable flowers from February through November

  • Manage up to 5 flower team members, including Spanish speakers.

  • Harvest flowers up to 30 hours per week at the height of the season

  • Organize a bouquet-making process that practices efficiency, while maintaining high quality, beautiful
    bouquets for markets and wholesale orders

  • Arrange flower bouquets

  • Trellis and stake beds, irrigate, fertilize, plant, and hoe as needed

  • Coordinate tractor work and irrigation with field/tractor manager or harvest crew leader

  • Maintain and improve crop plan, sowing schedules, seed orders, and inventory

  • Complete greenhouse and field flower sowing, manage timely planting and weeding

  • Keep work areas clean and organized

  • Grow wholesale accounts, with an emphasis on good communication and consistent supply of quality
    product

  • Communicate weekly availability list to all wholesale accounts

  • Conduct varietal research and trials

Secondary responsibilities could include the following:

  • Occasionally working a farmers market, which includes driving a box truck, customer service, record-keeping, attention to detail and repetitive heavy lifting

  • General farm work and participation in projects as needed

The work requires the physical and mental capacity to contribute daily to an often rigorous, fast-paced, and deeply rewarding agricultural practice. Staff work 30-40 hours/week from January through March and 50+ hours/week
from April through December.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years experience on a production farm

  • Cut-flower growing experience required

  • Strong floral design skills

  • Ability to speak basic, conversational Spanish is strongly desired

  • Applicant is willing to make a two year commitment

 Job Position - Delivery Driver

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill our delivery driver position. This person will be responsible for delivering produce to San Francisco and the Peninsula three to four days a week. Local drivers are encouraged to apply.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver orders to customers on assigned routes

• Unload goods and communicate with receivers

• Review deliveries to ensure all product is where it needs to be

• Obtain delivery confirmations from each customer

• Unpack the truck of any empty boxes, crates, or buckets upon return to the farm

QUALIFICATIONS

• Clean driving record and valid drivers license

• Ability to drive a box truck

• Great organizational skills and attention to detail

• Strong customer service and communication skills

• Be prepared to start work early
