How Does it Work?
Become a member to receive a weekly (or biweekly) box of seasonal organic veggies and fruit, grown here at Blue House Farm and delivered to 25 neighborhood pickup sites around the Peninsula. We grow what we sell!
Subscriptions are available annually for the Regular season (May-December) and Winter season (January-April). A full regular season CSA membership is 30 weeks, from the third week in May through the second week of December. A biweekly option is also available. If you’re looking for something a little more flexible, you might try our 4-Delivery/Weekly Payment Plan. After the first 4 pre-paid deliveries, you will be charged on a per box basis to continue deliveries up until the time that you choose to end your membership. This way, you can receive boxes for 4 weeks to 30 weeks on a pay-as-you-go basis. The price for 2017 subscriptions is $24/box for all membership types.
As a CSA member, you also have the option to “hold” your deliveries if you are going out of town or can’t pick up your box on a particular week. You can receive credit for the skipped delivery that you can apply towards your membership in future seasons or “add-on” items like pastured eggs, flower bouquets, honey, salts and surplus fruit, like canning tomatoes.
All members receive a weekly CSA e-newsletter which includes a list of what’s expected in the upcoming box, as well as critical information from the farm. We keep members up to date with what’s happening in our fields, and provide creative, seasonal recipes that make use of the vegetables in your box.
Your membership also includes invitations to on-farm events in the spring and fall.
What's in a Box?
Each week we harvest a mix of vegetables and fruit fresh from the field to include in your box. We estimate a box is full of enough produce to feed 2-4 people each week, depending on a households appetite and cooking routine. A box contains 7-9 different items and typically includes fruit, 1 salad green, 1 hearty green, 1 herb or aromatic, 1 root, and 2 or 3 mixed seasonal vegetables. We work hard to avoid too much repetition and keep the box varied. We sometimes diversify our boxes with stone fruit, citrus and other crops from our friends at other local organic farms, while the vast majority of the produce is right from our fields.
Farming is inherently subject to the whims of Mother Nature. Each box is unique and may vary, but here are some examples from seasons past:
